About
Hi, I’m Georgios. I build systems that connect the digital cloud to the physical world.
I’m a Senior Backend Software Engineer transitioning into Industrial Solution Architecture. My focus is bridging modern IT practices (Cloud, DevOps, Microservices) with traditional OT environments (Sensors, PLCs, and brownfield factories).
The Origin Story
I was born in Athens, Greece, in 1988. My technical journey started with a degree in Electronics Engineering in Lamia, which gave me a strong foundation in how hardware actually works.
In 2019 i moved in Vienna where i live with my wife ever since.
When I started working professionally in Software back in 2017, I began in web development. It was excellent training for shipping production software, but over time I realized I wanted my code to interact with physical, moving systems.
The Pivot to “Metal”
My career eventually moved into the industrial sector, and that shift changed everything. Over the past several years, I’ve built backend systems and solved complex integration challenges across multiple heavy-duty industries:
- Renewable Energy: Worked with Eunice Energy Group and Ventus Engineering GmbH on wind turbine optimization and other projects in relation to the Renewables Industry.
- Smart Refrigeration: Built solutions for AHT Cooling Systems GmbH, a global leader in commercial cooling technology and a part of the Daikin family.
- Alpine & Mobility Technology: Currently at Skadii GmbH (part of the HTI Group), helping develop digital management platforms for ski resorts and ropeway infrastructure.
The Next Chapter
The more industrial data challenges I encountered, the more I understood that writing backend code alone isn’t enough. The industry doesn’t only need more APIs, it needs better architecture.
To support that transition, I’m currently pursuing a Master of Science in IoT and Smart Systems at FH Technikum Wien in Vienna, Austria.
I’m moving from Software Engineering toward Solution Engineering. My goal is to design platform level architectures using tools like Kubernetes, Terraform, and MQTT that help legacy industrial machines communicate securely and efficiently with modern cloud systems.
What This Blog Is About
This site is my digital whiteboard. I use it to document my transition from SWE to SA and share practical insights around IoT/IIoT, edge systems, and brownfield modernization.
I believe that efficient design and solid engineering hide in simplicity and we need to push more towards modernization in the Industrial space. If you feel you agree with me, feel free to connect.
